Let’s dig a little deeper.
As we read previously, a person may choose to dismiss their thoughts and feelings toward a certain situation, however, this action will eventually lead to the person becoming overwhelmed by the intense emotions that come with this.
A review shared in the International Journal of Psychotherapy Practice and Research states that researchers debate that the longer emotions are repressed or ignored, the more severe or intense they become. The review also states that our emotional status has an influence on our physical and mental health, the review then shares the connection between various disorders and the repression of our emotions.
Some disorders linked to our emotional well being include:
- Dermatology – Psoriasis, Dermatitis, Itching
- Respirology – shortness of breath, choking spells, chest pain
- Neurology – Conversion, paralysis, headache, dizziness, pseudo-seizures
- Cardiology – Hypertension, Chest Pain, Palpitations
